8. Basic skin care

Good skin care is essential to keep our skin healthy and glowing. While what works for one may not work for the other, these are some essential steps your routine should comprise.

  1. Cleanse – washing your face

Washing our face helps to remove most environmental pollutants and natural skin surface substances, such as dirt, cosmetics, oils, bacteria, sweat and dead skin cells.​

The general rule of thumb is to cleanse twice a day – once in the morning and once at night. However, those with dry skin can tailor how frequently to cleanse based on your needs.

It is also important to choose a cleanser that fits your skin type: normal skin, sensitive skin, dry skin or oily skin.

2. Moisturize – hydrating the skin

A moisturiser can make our skin more smooth and supple. Moisturisers rehydrate the skin and help to lock in the moisture by preventing water loss. They should be applied daily to keep our skin hydrated and healthy.

3. Protect – applying sunscreen

Sunscreen is the most important step in any skincare routine. It provides protection against skin cancer and premature aging. Sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher should be applied at least 20 to 30 minutes before sun exposure. Sunscreen should be re-applied at least every 2 hours.
